twelve kvant clubmax, busked live over petco park
the first field of dreamz fest at san diego's petco park carried twelve 40-watt kvant clubmax projectors, run busked — an operator improvising beams to the music in real time rather than chasing timecode. laser light company's crew of mitchell blakemore, chris jackson and ricky mendez stretched beams across the stadium in the peaks and pulled back through the mellow passages. slightly stoopid headlined, with stephen marley, stick figure and don carlos on the bill.

seven atom 58s shape the octane tour
don toliver's octane arena tour runs seven atom 58 laser systems on beyond control, produced by pyrotecnico — programming by logan izenas, operation by jason barton-gillman, with creative studio thank you 92 and creative director mike carson. the design works in big aerial effects, precision beam choreography and audience sweeps, treating the lasers as the show's shape rather than its accent.

144 led pods vanish into the roof
dave's 42-date arena tour flies a grid of 144 dmx-controlled winches carrying led pods, each with nine metres of travel — hidden in the roof for most of the show, then lowered to form kinetic shapes over the stage. lighting and co-production designer tim routledge and programmer morgan evans run them as a slow reveal rather than a constant effect.

disguise puts the media server on a laptop
disguise showed x1 at infocomm — single-output shows run straight from a laptop, no dedicated media server — alongside a mapping matter release that adds a larger projector library, led tiles and projection mirrors, and a new looks-and-compositions workflow in its designer software. for small crews the laptop path narrows the distance between a vj rig and a media-server show.

inside fusion's turmbühne laser rig
laseranimation sollinger published the full laser specification for fusion festival 2025's turmbühne: four phaenon xd 24000 projectors fitted with line optics, four phaenon accurate 10 units, a grid of 28 blitz lasers and six tarm blaze fixtures, with an infinity-mirror laser installation by lighting designers david egger and sebastian mähler. it is one of the few big psy-adjacent stages whose exact rig is public.
resolume opens the booth to ai assistants
resolume arena 7.24.0 ships mcp servers, letting ai assistants like claude build compositions and wire patches directly inside the vj software. it is the first mainstream vj platform to make the show file itself something an ai can operate on, and it lands while crews like aural eye are already performing ai-generated visuals on psy stages.

audience scanning grows a formal safety discipline
the international laser display association now runs a self-paced audience scanning safety course and requires irradiance measurements for award entries that expose humans to beams. scanning a crowd is the most beautiful and most dangerous thing a festival laser does, and the professional bar for doing it is now written down.

drone shows have not reached psy festivals yet
drone shows have not reached psy festivals yet
drone light shows are mainstreaming as fireworks replacements — las vegas rang in 2026 with 600 drones synced to pyro, and theme parks are switching permanently — but no major psy festival has flown one. between the open-air sites, the visual culture and the no-fireworks ethos of many gatherings, the first festival to do it well will own the moment.
