juliette bourdeix, performing as youthie, is a french multi-instrumentalist who began studying trumpet at age 6 and went on to train in classical and jazz at the conservatoire in paris, later qualifying as a teacher. at 17 she joined the group wiki, playing trumpet and backing vocals for close to eight years as part of a reggae and rocksteady career. during musicology studies she developed a passion for balkan and oriental music, and taught herself chromatic accordion and transverse flute as a street musician. her playing draws on a wide range of influences including ska, latin, jazz, and classical traditions.
