mat the alien has been mixing since the age of fourteen, initially inspired by the electronic music heard at warehouse parties in the northwest of england in 1988. his early exposure to music came partly through his family background: his father opened vibes records in 1978, described as the number one independent record store in the uk, and later a second store called muze in bury near manchester. he took up drums at age ten, and his mixing style draws on heavy beats, bass lines, and turntable techniques across multiple genres and tempos.
