mace began his career in 1991, inspired by nights at sterns nightclub in worthing, where he heard early sets from ltj bukem, grooverider, carl cox, and kid batchelor. he taught himself to mix after picking up his first decks in 1992, gravitating toward the longer rolling style associated with djs like randall and carl cox, and moved into jungle when the scene split from hardcore in 1993. he spent time at london record shops including black market, unity, wax city, and lucky spin, and tuned regularly into kool fm. his break came in late 1996 when he linked with local dj rok one, who introduced him to richard scott and original vibes.
