kate ryan is a belgian singer and songwriter born on july 22, 1980 in tessenderlo, belgium. she gained international recognition with a cover of mylène farmer's "désenchantée," which charted across europe, and in 2006 she represented belgium at the eurovision song contest with "je t'adore," though she was eliminated in the semi-final. in 2008 she received a wma award for world's best selling benelux artist, with an estimated 3.5 million records sold.
