haptic

haptic is an electro-acoustic trio from chicago, formed in spring 2005 by steven hess, joseph clayton mills, and adam sonderberg, all previously members of the dropp ensemble. the group was conceived primarily as a vehicle for live collaboration and frequently incorporates a rotating fourth member chosen to push the music into unfamiliar directions; past collaborators include tony buck of the necks, olivia block, and mark solotroff of bloodyminded. their work ranges from stark minimalism to directed chaos, with an emphasis on sonic detail and restless experimentation. individual members have released music on labels including kranky, editions mego, relapse records, and cathnor, among others.
