green velvet

green velvet is an alias of chicago producer and dj curtis alan jones, also known as cajmere, born 26 april 1968. jones helped shape the chicago house renaissance of the 1990s through his cajual records label, achieving early recognition in 1993 with the cajmere single "brighter days" featuring dajaé on vocals. later that year he launched the cajual sublabel relief records, primarily for instrumental material, and green velvet appeared on many of its early releases including "preacher man," "flash," "the stalker," and "answering machine." initially conceived as an outlet for his non-vocal productions and dj work, the green velvet alias grew to become widely recognised in its own right through a string of club singles.
