faithless were a british electronic group formed in london in 1994, built around maxwell fraser (maxi jazz), ayalah bentovim (sister bliss), and roland armstrong (rollo), with many songs sung by pauline taylor. jamie catto was an original member who departed after the second album "sunday 8pm," and zoë johnston joined for the later album "outrospective." their 1996 debut "reverence" found an underground audience without breaking into the mainstream, while the 1998 follow-up brought wider commercial success, with the single "god is a dj" becoming a major club anthem. when performing live the group were joined by guitarist dave randall and bassist aubrey nunn, and members also pursued solo careers alongside the group's output. maxi jazz passed away on 23 december 2022.
