cem (cem alagöz) was born in berlin in 1977 and began his career in 1989 with english-language rap, quickly specialising in g-funk under the influence of west coast artists such as eazy-e, dj quik, dr. dre, snoop doggy dogg, and p-funk figures including parliament, funkadelic, and roger troutman. in 1993 he co-founded the dramafellaz hip-hop collective with king mero, a group that would later also include deso dogg, sir kane, big haze, and samir lee. by the mid-1990s he was a regular presence across berlin's underground hip-hop stages, with g-funk remaining his defining style.
