afrikaburn

afrikaburn is a participant-built temporary city that assembles annually in a remote semi-desert landscape in the tankwa karoo, operating as an official burning man regional since 2007. every structure, art installation, and sound system on site is conceived, funded, and built by attendees, with no commercial vending permitted within the perimeter.

music spreads across dozens of independently organized theme camp dancefloors with no central stage or programmed lineup, and psy and psy-adjacent sounds are a consistent presence across that spread. the gathering runs equally on large-scale collaborative art, fire performances, and the radical participation and gifting principles shared across the burning man network.
