bassmania xxl is a recurring multi-club indoor and outdoor event held across four connected venues on the hawerkamp, a well-known industrial club complex. the format lets attendees move freely between buildings, spreading over eleven floors covering hardtechno, psytrance, progressive trance, tekk, gabber, trance, techno, bouncy house, raw, and more, alongside outdoor areas, chillouts, and bars.

the series has been running for over twelve years and is billed as the largest indoor festival in the north rhine-westphalia region. each edition brings in guest collectives and promoters to run individual floors, with psytrance and progressive trance typically anchored in the sputnikhalle. the august edition is one of several dates spread across the year.
